Working with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Sobis has developed a new training course for small businesses who want to learn more about the risks their company may experience and what to do about it. The SBDC has made this course free for small businesses and can be found here: https://sbdclynchburgregion.org/programs-and-resources/risk/.
The course has been divided into two parts, assessing your risk and mitigating your risk. Each part will take about two hours to complete. The first part, assessing your risk, defines some of the common terminology used during the risk assessment, identifying and quantifying your business assets and dependencies, analyzing the hazard impacts to your business and community, and how to consider climate change impacts. The second part, mitigating your risk, explores mitigation strategies for your employees and business assets for a variety of hazards including floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, landslides, and pandemics. The course concludes with how to monitor and evaluate the mitigation strategies you decide to implement. The training course also includes an Excel tool to help you identify risk and conduct a benefit-cost analysis to identify cost-effective strategies.
